Date published: 05 February 2018

After over 15 years escorting children and families across busy Rochdale junctions, school crossing patrol officer is hanging up her lollipop.

Patricia Devall has been a popular face amongst schools children and families each morning and afternoon.

She crossed children over for the final time on Friday 26 January, and was presented with flowers as many children and families wished her well in her retirement.

Patricia said: “This is the best job I have ever had and I have absolutely loved it. My daughters have always said this is not a job it is a social life. I have been part of the community and I will really miss the kids.”

Councillor Neil Emmott, cabinet member for environment, said: “What an achievement for Patricia to do over 15 years. She has provided a crucial safety role, in all weathers, and she will have been a key part of so many people’s fond school memories. I hope she enjoys her well earnt retirement.”
