Vehicles stopped by police

Date published: 01 February 2018

A number of vehicles have been stopped by police at the M62 at Thornham during the past 24 hours.

One HGV was overloaded on the rear axle and tractor unit. The driver was fined £400 and the lorry prohibited.

A Mercedes transporter was found to be overloaded on the rear axle and gross.

The vehicle was seized and the driver reported for court summons after giving false details due to an expired driving licence.

One HGV driver was stopped and fined £900 for tachograph offences, including driving for 115 hours in a fortnight: above the maximum of 90 hours.

The driver had also been stopped earlier this week by the DVSA, fined and immobilised for 24 hours rest.

A second overloaded transporter was also stopped; the driver was served a £400 graduated fixed penalty notice.

One of the HGVs stopped was found to be fitted with additional leaf springs to disguise it being overloaded.

A GMP spokesman said: “The vehicle was overloaded 37% on the gross, 32% on axle one and 16% on axle two. The overloading of vehicles to this extent is dangerous.”

The driver was reported and the vehicle prohibited.
