Golden day as library celebrates special anniversary

Date published: 30 January 2018

There was nostalgia in the air at Alkrington Library as people of all ages enjoyed games, readings, face painting and took a trip down memory lane as images of the library’s history were proudly displayed throughout a day celebrating the library's 50th birthday

It was a special day for all those, past and present, who have played their part in ensuring Alkrington Library has thrived as a vibrant community centre.

Everyone embraced the birthday occasion, including council staff who joined in the fun by wearing specially designed outfits from the 1960s.

Councillor Janet Emsley said: “It was great to see so many families and young people enjoying the day and the library’s fantastic facilities, which are a credit to our superb library service.

“The library has been at the heart of the local community for five decades, always embracing change and pioneering new services for people to enjoy.

“Staff at Alkrington Library provide a wonderful service to literature lovers of all ages. It has been a great innings so far, 50 not out and still going strong. Thanks to everyone’s hard work in making it a day to remember.”
