Flying Horse Hotel wins gold In Bloom award

Date published: 30 January 2018

The Flying Horse Hotel has won a gold award for its colourful floral displays.

The popular Packer Street pub won the accolade for north west small accommodation as part of Rochdale Township In Bloom for the second year running.

The winning hanging baskets and bountiful planters are part of a year-round display at The Flying Horse which is replanted twice each year.

Landlord Benjamin Boothman said: “We are very proud to have won the gold award two years in a row, first in 2016 and now 2017.”

In 2017, success at the RHS North West In Bloom awards was evident right across the borough as the Rochdale, Heywood and Pennine Township entries were all presented with gold awards. Middleton, in its first year at the competition, won a silver medal.

North West in Bloom is the voluntary regional organisation that administers the Britain in Bloom competition in Lancashire, Cheshire, Greater Manchester and Merseyside, one of the 18 regions comprising Britain in Bloom.

Rochdale was also nominated to go forward as the category representative for the main Britain in Bloom competition, one of the longest running environmental contests in the UK.

The accolade is the culmination of a year of work which has been undertaken by many local people, groups and projects from right across Rochdale Township with the support of Rochdale Council and the Environmental Management team.
