Woman trapped as driver flees multi-car collision

A driver fled the scene of a three-car collision outside the Exchange on Saturday

A woman was trapped inside a Toyota as a driver fled the scene of a multi-vehicle collision at the junction of St Mary’s Gate and Hunter’s Lane on Saturday (27 January).

The woman, who was in her 50s, was extracted by fire crews and hospitalised.

Three vehicles, including a red Toyota Yaris and a grey Mercedes van, collided at the junction, which saw all three emergency services respond. The third driver made off in an unknown direction before police arrived.

A spokesperson for the ambulance service confirmed the patient was taken to Royal Oldham Hospital, adding that her injuries were “not major trauma".
