Can you spare a few hours to help Reuse Littleborough load their ‘container of hope’ on Saturday 3 February?

The local charity, which aims to reuse many everyday items that would otherwise end up in the bin, will be donating a container of goods to the Forever Angels Baby Home in Mwanza, Tanzania. The container will be filled at Reuse Littleborough’s premises at Stevenson Square.

Michael Bamford, who runs the group, said: “I can categorically confirm we have enough to fill the massive 40-foot container that will arrive to be loaded next Saturday at 8am.

“The shippers allow us three hours to fill the container, and we still need helpers to load up.”

This will be the second container sent to the baby home. In 2016, the local group donated similar goods, and helped change so many children’s lives in the process. Amongst these were Haji, who had his life changed with a donated bicycle, and Raphael, whose quality of life dramatically improved after the baby home provided his family with donations from Reuse Littleborough.

Reuse Littleborough chose to support Forever Angels again, due to an upcoming ban on imports of used clothing entering Tanzania by 2019. New clothes have already been banned in Tanzania as part of the East African Community’s plan to boost regional trade of their diminishing textile industry.

The container will be filled with eight tons of various goods that have been donated from across the UK, with the majority being donated from the local community over the year, including plastic ‘shoeboxes’ and old school uniforms.

Forever Angels was set up by Amy Hathaway, who now lives in Bolton, after she found four dying babies in a hospital closet. She was told they were dying of AIDS, but actually, they were dying from starvation and neglect. She started the home, which has cared for over 300 babies.
