Kaizen-Do Karate raise £1,250 for Cancer Research UK

Date published: 26 January 2018

Kaizen-Do Karate presented Cancer Research UK with a cheque for £1,250 on Thursday (25 January).

Over 100 students of the award-winning martial arts academy raised the impressive amount at their annual Christmas party on the 16 December with raffles, tombola and mini-auction. Members of staff present on the day included Sensei Dervish, Sensei Thomas Hay, Sensei Michael Nuttall, Sensei Sean Clowes, Alkan Dervish, Ellen Dunn, James Boyle, and Olivia Thewell.

Chief Instructor Sensei Dervish said: “We are very lucky to have such kind, giving parents who all contributed to this cause. We will continue to do more fund-raising this year because we want to carry on helping.”

The academy focuses on a ‘lifeskill and character development programme’, teaching their 300 students discipline, focus and respect alongside the physical aspect of the sport. In addition to its members, Kaizen-Do Karate also currently reaches 1,200 children in schools across the borough.

Established in 2004 by Sensei Dervish, Kaizen-Do Karate has raised over £4,000 for Cancer Research UK over the past five years. The academy moved to its current premises at Moss Mill on Woodbine Street East in 2010 and continues to grow each year,
