Littleborough police confident they will see a reduction in crime

Date published: 24 January 2018

Despite a recent increase in recorded crime figures in Littleborough, local police are confident they will see a reduction after arresting and charging a number of individuals.

Increases in crime figures were recorded for October and November, but fell in December.

Speaking at the local PACT meeting on Tuesday (23 January), the police said: “There is an ongoing investigation into domestic burglary incidents. There was a spike in November, but we don’t believe there’s a pattern. We have charged a couple of people with offences and are also awaiting further results from forensics.

“A lot have been made easy for the perpetrators, so keep doors and windows locked, valuables out of sight and keep the community spirit by checking on elderly or vulnerable friends, family and neighbours.

“The increase in vehicle thefts in October also appeared to be sporadic, and there was an increase in criminal damage and shoplifting.

“We did arrest a man this morning who has been recalled to prison. He’s been a scourge on Littleborough since November, helping himself to things in various local shops.

“We have identified a couple of individuals today. We are confident they are responsible for some incidents and have been targeting the sick and the vulnerable. It’s important they are off the streets.”

“That should relieve some of the pressure; and we are confident we should see a reduction in crime.”

They continued: “Antisocial behaviour also rose in October and November, and we are confident this is being targeted: it seems to stem from children of a certain age and is also linked with the Metrolink.

“We do have a multi-agency targeted approach towards antisocial behaviour with the council.”
