Heywood Christmas Festival

Date published: 20 November 2017

The annual Christmas Festival Parade took place in Heywood on Saturday (17 November).

The colourful Christmas lights were officially switched on at 5pm as the church bells chimed against a short firework display hosted by The Olde Queen Anne.

The parade left The Heywood Pub at 4.30pm with floats from Joe Sharp Transport, decorated by Mike Goldrick Window Blinds, LJDA and Rugrats, Blue Rose Gifts, St James Brownies, The Friends of Hopwood Park, and the Rotary Club of Heywood. The parade continued along Market Street, stopping at the top of Hartley Street.

A range of local talent could be seen on stage throughout the day outside St Luke’s, and a hot drink enjoyed inside.

At The Olde Queen Anne, there was mulled cider, hot bingo, specialty coffees and a children's entertainer.

Children had the opportunity to tell Santa what they wanted for Christmas at Mike Goldrick Blinds & Curtains and again at Tilly's Tea Room, where The Salvation Army Brass Band performed.

Stalls sold various goods, plus special offers on 'Tata Ash and festive cakes. More stalls with bargains to be had were waiting outside the Civic Centre, and the town Guides also hosted entertainment and crafts in the Community Room for Heywood’s Magic Market.

The festive sounds of Middleton Youth Brass Band, followed by Littleborough Brass Band, filled the air around Heywood as they played on Market Street from 12pm.

Photos were taken with Paw Patrols Marshall and Chase, Frozen's Anna and Elsa, Batman and Captain America, along with Peppa Pig, Mickey and Minnie Mouse, plus Victorian Juggling Jim with his join-in circus tricks.
