St John with St Michael’s Big Soup Share

Date published: 20 November 2017

The children at St John with St Michael CE Primary School in Shawforth have been very green fingered growing vegetables.

Over the year they have cleared some raised beds within the school grounds, planted various vegetables, took turns weeding and watering them and eventually; they have harvested their Autumn Vegetables.

Once the vegetables were harvested some of the KS2 children helped to wash and prepare them and then made very tasty vegetable soup with them, which they then shared with the nearby residents of Edgemoor Close, also in Shawforth.

It has been a fabulous experience for the children who have linked their gardening with science, art and also worked alongside members of our local community to ensure the vegetables grow.
