Residents of Newhey Manor Care Home and Rosemary Care Home, Milnrow enjoyed a special visit from Milnrow & Districts Carnival royalty.
Carnival Queen Holly Copping, Junior Queen Tia Foster and Carnival Princess Millie O'Brien visited the Newhey Manor Care Home, Newhey and Rosemary Care Home, Milnrow to chat to the residents.
Members of the carnival committee reminisced with residents about carnivals gone by and discussed ideas of how to celebrate the carnival's 50th anniversary next year.
Milnrow & Districts Carnival Committee is a non-profit making organisation with the aim of raising funds for local deserving causes/groups within the Milnrow district including Firgrove and Newhey.
Next year’s carnival is scheduled for 23 June 2018 and the day is enjoyed by approximately 3,000 people each year who line the streets to watch the parade and attend the summer fete afterward at Milnrow Memorial Park.
The event brings together the local community with a procession from Newhey to Milnrow, followed by a summer fete with stalls and activities with all local primary schools, many groups and charities taking part.
The carnival committee aims to maintain tradition, contributing their time voluntarily to organise a village carnival. They hope to mark the 50th anniversary with an extra special day.
