Bikers wanted to support memorial ride for Lance Corporal Scott Hetherington

Date published: 02 November 2017

All bikers and members of the community are being asked to support a memorial ride for Lance Corporal Scott Hetherington on 6 January 2018.

22-year-old L/Cpl Hetherington, of the 2nd Battalion The Duke of Lancaster’s Regiment, died on Monday 2 January 2017 in the town of Taji, north west of Baghdad, Iraq. He had recently become a father to a baby girl, Safaya Rose, with his partner, Savannah.

His death followed a gunshot wound to the abdomen in 'an incident', understood to be not as a result of enemy activity. His body was repatriated on 12 January and he was buried with full military honours at Boarshaw Cemetery on 26 January.

The route, organised by Rigby's Guardians MCC, will begin at Rochdale Town Hall, through Heywood to the Gardeners Pub on Sandy Lane in Middleton. Lance Corporal Hethington’s father, Jason, who runs the pub, has kindly offered to put some hot food on for the riders.

A similar ride last year saw hundreds turn out to honour the fallen soldier.

Any donations on the day will go to the Middleton Royal British Legion.
