Local NHS governors

Date published: 27 October 2017

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale residents have elected their governors for Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust. The governors will act as community representatives and will help to influence the way local health services are run.

Pennine Care, which provides community and mental health services in Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale as well as other areas, operates a Council of Governors where local people can represent their constituency. The Council of Governors is responsible for ensuring that community views are considered when Trust decisions are made and services are developed.

The Council of Governors has a number of statutory duties, one of these being holding the non-executive directors, individually and collectively, to account for the performance of the board of directors.

Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale has four public governors; Karen Kelland, Margaret Stoneman, Mohammed Sarwar and Ryan Cowan.

Ryan Cowan was re-elected into his third term of office, he said: “I will continue to be a strong voice in my community, advocating better services for all. I will ensure that the voice of service users, carers and the public is heard and at the forefront of service creation, development and re-design.”
