Cool ghouls are right on Q

Date published: 27 October 2017

Q Gardens on Queens Drive was invaded by over one hundred vampires, zombies, mummies and other fantasy fright figures as kids and grown-ups descended on the community garden for an organised chiller thriller.

Welcoming the horde of scary fairies and creepy creatures was the gruesome twosome Barry Fitzpatrick and Michael McGoven dressed as Jester and Vampire. They shook claw, paw and hand as the kids and parents arrived.

The spooky day was actually part of Q Garden’s Autumn celebration.

RBH Community Partnership Worker Davina Unsworth said: “We received funding from The Big Lottery to fund three events a year for the local community. We based our activity days on three of the seasons and when we thought about Autumn the Halloween aspect seemed a great way to go for the school holidays.”

The event also received backing from local retailers Crystal Doors who are keen supporters of the gardens.

The K Stars dance troop kicked off the monster themed fun day with a tiny tots display of dance routines that wowed the crowd. Also on had were ghoulish face-painting, art and crafts, games and a dress up area.

Judging by the turn out and the smiles on everyone’s face the day was a monstrous success and is sure to be repeated next year. After all, you can’t keep a good spook down.
