Work to reduce the height of a chimney at the former Dexine Rubber Mill in Spotland has begun.
A workman was spotted working on the chimney on Wednesday (25 October), just weeks after permission to lower the height of the chimney from 40 metres to 15 metres was granted at the Planning and Licensing Committee earlier this month.

The request was called in by Spotland and Falinge councillors Cecile Biant and Wendy Cocks as ‘the second biggest issue in our ward in terms of requests from residents to get it cleared or used’.
It was also noted that the impact of the site is ‘devastating’ to the community as the mill and chimney are obviously in a poor condition.
There is also another chimney and mill within 100 metres of the site which is in reasonable condition, and that mill is occupied by businesses.
