‘Sing! Littleborough

The locals of Littleborough and beyond have been raising the roof with joyful song and laughter each Wednesday since the launch of ‘Sing! Littleborough’, our new community singing group.

Opening night was on Wednesday 11 October at the Falcon Inn pub in Littleborough Square, and saw over 50 people through the doors.

Led by vocal coach and musician, Phil Reynolds, the new choir were singing in three-part harmony within the hour, belting out Abba’s ‘I have a dream’ followed by a bit of James Bay’s ‘Hold back the river’.

Of the first session, Phil said: “I’m going to have to up my game on the harmony front, this lot are fast learners. It was a fantastic night, the Falcon were really welcoming, we all had a good laugh, an amazing first sing, and it feels wonderful to be part of such a great community initiative, there is real spirit.”

Following the launch night there was a huge buzz with loads of positive comments.
Janet Birch said: “Absolutely loved it. A great adrenaline rush - goosebumps with the harmonies - roll on next week. Thanks for making it possible.”

Jane Walton said, “This was pure joy and unalloyed fun. Can't wait for next week. Wonderful to join in a community thing in a local pub. Brilliant.”

When asked how the new singing group came about, Sarah Williams, one of the organisers said: “I really love singing, it’s so uplifting and good for the soul, so after the unexpected closure of the Rock Choir in Littleborough, myself and a couple of singing friends, Joan Cook, Liz Creagh and Joanne Bottomley, decided to take matters into our own hands. We put out some feelers and were overwhelmed with the response. Finding a choir leader and venue were the next steps, and both Phil and The Falcon Inn were really keen to help us get ‘Sing! Littleborough’ off the ground.”

Over the coming weeks and months Phil will be teaching a range of songs, both new and old. Although in the short term the focus may be on festive tunes as Sing! have already got their first gig lined up, and will be performing at the Littleborough Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday 2 December.
