Freya Howarth conquers Snowdon to raise funds for her Brownie Unit

Freya Howarth, 8, from 4th Heywood (St Luke’s) Brownies has taken her dedication to Girlguiding to a whole new level. A holiday to Wales turned into much more when Freya decided to raise some vital funds for her Brownie Unit.

A completely selfless idea quickly came together as Freya sought sponsorship to conquer the highest mountain in Wales, Snowdon. Standing at 3560ft, Snowdon is no easy feat to defeat. Freya climbed the mountain with her father, Ryan, armed with their essentials and 4th Heywood Brownies Flag.

Freya managed to gather sponsorship from friends, family and fellow Brownies and has managed to raise a fantastic £200 for her Unit. This money will go a long way in supporting the charity group who rely on weekly subscriptions and volunteers to pay for rent, insurance and activities, costs of which are always going up.

An act of this magnitude didn’t go unnoticed; after returning from her holiday in Wales and settling back into Brownies. Freya was awarded a County Award, an excellent memento for her hard work and dedication. This was presented to Freya by Division Commissioner, Alyson Quinn.

Alyson Quinn, Division Commissioner: “I am delighted to give this award to Freya. She has shown true determination, passion and dedication to Girlguiding and Brownies. The funds will go a long way in supporting her Unit.”

Freya said: “I found the walk a lot easier than my dad, but it was harder when I got near the top. I’m glad to be able to help out my friends at Brownies.”
