Beechella indoor and outdoor music festival at Beech House School

The school’s Open Evenings take place next week. The Senior & Upper Prep at the Manchester Road site on Monday 16 October between 19.00 & 21.00.

The Lower Prep on Drake Site takes place on Tuesday 17 October between 13.00 and 15.00 and Thursday 19 October between 9.30 and 11.30.

Fiza Sharif, Year 10P, had an idea to fundraise for charities.

Fiza said: “Beechella is an indoor and outdoor music festival surrounded by earning money for charitable causes.

“This year’s theme was all about raising awareness for Syrian refugees dying and suffering on the other side of the world.

“Even though, thankfully, we are very privileged and do not have to endure as many obstacles, this doesn’t mean we shouldn’t help when we can.

“However, it was going to take a lot of time, commitment and preparation which is what our school encourages. ‘Crescit Perstudium Felicitas’ Endeavour brings success.’

“After getting permission from the Headmaster my friends and I were determined to make the idea a success. We didn’t waste any time and later on I managed to negotiate with our very helpful Friends of Beech House committee.

“We took the responsibility into our own hands and independently funded for it by donating food and drinks along with asking the art department for postures and a backdrop.

“The amount of hard work in which was contributed to the event is something which I will never be able to fathom.

“The response given and the love shown from all pupils is an incredible achievement and resulted in our donations being the most made in the last 6 years compared to school. Be proud.

“We had talented performances from our amazing music GCSE pupils as well as our very own Miss Carlile holding the live show.

“Of course, the ‘shout out’ would not be complete without thanking Mr Dowland for his time spent as a human target with sponge’s whist he was in the ‘Stocks’.

“Overall, from the lights, stage, activities and Mr Dowlands foamy face, Beechella was and is something that I will never forget and I appreciate everyone who helped me.

“Thank you.”

Football

The U15 football team played their first game of the season in cold and blustery conditions. With some of the boys making their debut in the older age bracket, it was an opportunity to see several players in a variety of positions.

The game started brightly with some positive play, but it soon became apparent that playing neat football on a pitch that had just been cut, was going to be to the detriment of the team. Unfortunately, goals rained in against Beech House, as they struggled to come to terms with the sloping pitch, long grass and wild weather.

There was a consolation goal in the second half, scored by Matthew Hankinson, but it did not affect the overall result of 1 -15 to Matthew Moss.

Beech House U13 boys football team played their first match of the season away against Wardle Academy.

The Beech House boys were looking forward to their first game as a team, especially the Year 7 boys, and were expecting a tough one, due to the opposing team being made up of predominantly Year 8 boys.

The game started quite rapidly with Wardle keeping possession and creating many chances, causing our keeper Alfie Mayer to be constantly waiting for the next shot.

Wardle achieved their first two goals in the first few minutes of the game, causing the boys to become disheartened. After the 4th goal from Wardle just before half time, it was time for a half time meeting to discuss their tactical ideas.

With a change of keeper to Zain Mohammed from Alfie Mayer showed he was infinitely more comfortable playing outfield, Beech House seemed to find their rhythm and began to look more like a squad!

Some excellent tackles from Che Sulivan-Manders, and a great run down the wing from Ben Hankinson - we were unlucky not to create a successful finish.

Unfortunately for the boys, the final score ended 0-6, but the second half included some fantastic saves by our keeper Zain Mohammed, and committed defending from our man of the match Rees Kayani.

Hopefully the team can take their second half performance into their next match!
