Rochdale Bike Kitchen ready to start serving

Date published: 09 October 2017

Petrus is ready to start work in the Rochdale bike kitchen, which is based in the Rochdale Exchange Shopping Centre.

Petrus, Co-ordinator, Denis Skelton said: “Thanks to a grant of £3,450 from The Greater Manchester High Sheriff Police Fund we have been able to kit out a bike workshop to a professional standard. The successful application was backed by Rochdale Police.”

Petrus is buying three work benches and vices along with tool kits with the funds and qualified Petrus bike mechanics are now ready to give donated bikes a new lease of life by giving them a complete strip down.

In addition, Petrus has purchased a bike trailer that can carry twelve bikes, which will be used to take groups out into the countryside in the Petrus mini bus where they can enjoy new experiences of cycling.

The bikes are then passed on to groups and people in need of affordable transport such as benefit claimants who struggle to get to job or training interviews and people who are newly employed who find the cost of public transport prohibitive.

In partnership with Transport for Greater Manchester (TFGM) Petrus will soon be offering basic bike maintenance courses to the public.
