Mr Maden, 59, had made his way from the Reed Hotel to the takeaway shop, where four men were loitering, one of whom punched Mr Maden in the face. He fell backwards and hit his head on the floor.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of this serious head injury, but later, died.

Detective Inspector John Mulvihill of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “This was an absolutely tragic incident, made worse by the fact this man was only just recovering from a serious illness.

“I am asking for anyone who was with Keith on the night of the assault, or was around the takeaway at the time, to please get in touch.

“Keith’s family have questions that need answering, so even the smallest bit of information could be the key to giving them the answers they deserve.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 2536 of 28/09/17. All reports can be made anonymously on the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
