Council tax arrears over £4million

Date published: 06 October 2017

Rochdale Council is owed £4.085 million in council tax debt for the year 2016/17 (as of 31 August). The arrears have more than doubled since 2014/15, when just £1.885 million was owed.

A spokesperson for Rochdale Borough Council said: “Like many local authorities, we are working hard to collect outstanding debt to make sure that we can continue to provide front line services. The council will continue to actively contact residents with council tax arrears.

“Residents who are not currently paying are encouraged to contact us on 0300 303 8870 at the earliest opportunity to discuss a repayment arrangement.”

The Money Service Advice recently revealed 19.4% of residents in the Rochdale borough are struggling with bill repayments.
