Heritage properties designed by Edgar Wood renovated in Middleton

Date published: 05 October 2017

Two properties designed by the renowned architect Edgar Wood have been restored to their former glory.

Specialist architects worked to ensure the grade II listed homes on Rochdale Road, which were designed in 1900, retained their original look, and specialist conservators analysed samples of the original paint to make sure the new paintwork was as close as possible to the original finish.

The home owners took advantage of a grant which was available through Middleton’s Townscape Heritage Initiative (THI) to help them pay for the work.

A property at 48 Rochdale Road has also been renovated recently as part of the THI.

Councillor June West, chairwoman of the Middleton Township and member of the THI Board, said: “Rochdale Road is an important gateway into Middleton town centre, so I am pleased that both the home owners and the many passers-by will be able to enjoy their rich local history.”
