Wates reported to be lined up as Rochdale Riverside contractor

Date published: 02 October 2017

Wates, one of the largest privately-owned construction, development and property services companies in the UK, has been lined up to deliver the new Rochdale Riverside development in Rochdale town centre, according to Construction News.

Ground preparation work on the Smith Street site started two weeks ago and the Council previously said, 'The official contractor for Rochdale Riverside... is due to be formally appointed after the site investigation work is complete'.

However, Construction News says it 'understands that developer Genr8 has lined up Wates as main contractor for the 200,000 sq ft scheme'.

Wates declined to comment.

We asked Rochdale Council to comment, the reply was: 'No appointment has been made yet. We will update you as soon as we know more.'

The long-awaited development will see the site transformed into around 25 shops, including new Next and M&S stores, a Reel cinema and restaurants.
