RBH tenant Jack Weir plagued by persistent leak from upstairs flat

Date published: 27 September 2017

A persistent leak from the upstairs flat in the Thetford block on Lower Falinge has been ruining resident Jack Weir’s flat for over six months.

Mr Weir moved into the Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) property in January this year and has been plagued by the leak since March.

Over the months, in addition to a terrible odour lingering in his home, the leak from upstairs has also resulted in damage to his ceiling and no wallpaper. He has already claimed on his housing insurance once.

A spokesman for RBH commented: “RBH is aware of an intermittent leak which occurs at one of our homes in the Thetford block which originates in a flat above. Over a number of weeks and months RBH has tried to contact the tenant at this flat above by visiting them and writing to them to ask them to desist from causing leaks and making them aware of the distress that they are causing to the tenant below and the damage that they are doing to the homes in that block.

“Unfortunately to date, despite our best efforts, the tenant has failed to comply with our request to change their behaviour, and we are now seeking enforcement action against this tenant under the terms of their tenancy agreement.

“We are determined to ensure that the leaks cease and we are taking all steps within our power to ensure that this happens as soon as possible. We shall continue to work with our tenant in the flat below to keep them informed of the action we are taking and we are visiting as a matter of urgency to inspect the impact of the most recent leak.”
