Paul Ellison raises £1,275 for playground equipment at Caldershaw Play Area

Norden local Paul Ellison has raised £1,275 – enough for an addition new piece of playground equipment at Caldershaw Play Area.

Earlier this year, Mr Ellison set out on a mission to raise as much as he could for new equipment at the park following an arson attack.

A full set of replacement play equipment for the rest fire-damaged children’s play area is currently being installed by a specialist team.

The funds will allow an additional item called a ‘spica’ – a rotating platform and twisted pole that spin in response to children’s movements – to be added to the play area in the next few weeks.

Mr Ellison said: “RS Landscapes will be installing the spica free of charge and the council are paying the VAT. Thank you to everyone who fundraised, including AJ Properties, the Mayor’s charity, Wellibobs and everyone else.”

The Caldershaw play area was the recipient of £10,000 of funding via local councillors and the Norden ward fund, plus additional funds from Rochdale Council, less than two years ago, when the now damaged equipment was installed.

The current project to replace the equipment will see a further £24,000 spent on the play area.
