John Bright Statue, Broadfield Park
The statue of John Bright, one of the 19th century's most famous statesmen, is standing in proud of place in Broadfield Park having been cleaned to his original, pristine state.
The clean-up operation was carried out after council leader, Councillor Richard Farnell, spotted the statue was looking dirty and in urgent need of tender loving care.
Councillor Farnell said: “Considering John Bright was one of our most important and influential residents, I just felt his statue was looking a bit tired and sorry for itself.
“I have to thank the council’s clean up team for acting so quickly to restore it to its former glory.
"It is a major part of Rochdale’s rich heritage, so cleaning it was a no-brainer.
“The work won’t stop there though, we have plans to floodlight it as well to make the turnaround even more fantastic.”
