Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home raise £571 with family fun day

Date published: 08 September 2017

A well-attended family fun day at the Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home on Sunday raised £571.16 for the charity, which goes towards funding the upkeep of the home, projects and outings.

Guests were treated to live music, traditional games and sports day style races, including an egg and spoon race and hook-a-duck. Also available was a bouncy castle, crafts, various stalls, face-painting, a raffle and a tombola and refreshments.

Following a downpour, activities relocated to the barn.

A spokesperson for Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home said: “Thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come to our family fun day. We really appreciate your support.

“Also, a huge thank you to everybody that came along to support us, those that donated prizes, and those that donated time to come and entertain us, or help on a stall, we could not do any of this without our amazing volunteers.”

The Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home at Nab Farm in Wardle is a non-profit charity that was established back in 1894 with the objective of ‘the provision and maintenance of a holiday home for children who are in conditions of need or distress’.

In the 1920s, Nab Farm was donated by Frederick Lye, one of Rochdale's most distinguished citizens and benefactors to the committee of Rochdale Poor Children’s Moorland Home.

Operating between March and September, the charity has two distinct functions in providing services and facilities for school children during term time and for children referred by children’s social care, schools and community groups, during school holiday periods.

The Home has now closed for the season, but will reopen around Easter next year.
