Deeplish Mother Tongue and Cultural Study Group

Deeplish Mother Tongue and Study Group held its annual presentation and achievement day at the Deeplish Community Centre during the summer holidays.

Local councillors were the guests of honour at an evening ttended by parents, children and staff from community centre. 

Deputy Mayor, Councillor Mohammed Zaman said: “After school clubs are important for the teaching and learning languages including mother tongue.”

He praised the tutors, volunteers and witnessed children’s presentations.

Councillor Sameena Zaheer said: “Early education and learning social skills and moral values at an early age is of great importance.

“I am impressed by the young people and children’s participation in this group.”

Maulana Abdus Salam, the main tutor, addressed parents and pupils and gave detailed information to all participants. He welcomed the input and support by Deeplish Community Centre.

He said: “Parents are encouraged to become actively involved in their child’s education, and are always welcome to attend and discuss their child’s progress and participation.”

Sohail Ahmad, Deeplish Community Centre manager, said: “I am pleased to see the progress and participation by children in this group.

“I witness participation by children and young people every day who are keen to learn new things every day.

“It’s important that children are engaged in positive activities and improving on their social and life skills.

“The beauty of this Mother Tongue Group is that it has a sports element once a week and children play sports as well as learning at the centre.”

Deeplish Mother Tongue and Study Group has been running, under the supervision of Maulana Abdus Salam, at Deeplish Community centre for the past ten years.

Children learn languages, including Arabic, history and participate in fun based sports and arts activities at Deeplish Community centre every evening.

The purpose of the group is to provide all young people from the age of five to 12 with high-quality, professional language teaching to attain knowledge and understanding of languages at an early age – including constructive interaction and team education that embraces quality standards, friendly regard and family values.
