Linda Glossop wins Springhill Hospice 2018 calendar competition

Date published: 05 September 2017

Linda Glossop is the winner of the Springhill Hospice 2018 calendar competition with her photograph of Pike House Cottages at Rochdale Canal, which now appears on the calendar’s front cover.

The winning entry was revealed at an unveiling ceremony attended by local dignitaries, Hospice management and supporters as they celebrated the talents of photographers and the amazing views from around the Borough that feature in the fundraising calendar.

Linda has a very personal reason for entering the competition, she said: “My beloved father spent the last two weeks of his life at Springhill Hospice where he was looked after with great compassion and dignity. By entering the competition, I am able to give something back, helping others to receive the same care.

"I am thrilled that my photograph graces the calendar’s front cover and am now busy promoting it to my friends both locally and internationally”.

Each year an eight-strong team of volunteers manage the production of the Hospice’s calendar, including organising a photographic competition, asking photographers to submit their photos of scenes from around Rochdale, Middleton, Heywood and Whitworth.

Angela Smith, team member and launch evening host, said: “There are so many talented photographers in the area that we had many stunning pictures submitted, it was really difficult to whittle them down to the final 13."

Attending this year’s launch, and helping to unveil the competition winners, were the Mayor Ian Duckworth, Mayoress Christine Duckworth, the Mayor of Whitworth, Alan Neal, and his wife, Janet, the Mayoress, Springhill chairman of trustees Robert Clegg and
Chief Executive, Julie Halliwell.

This year’s Man of Rochdale, Alan Wrigley, and Woman of Rochdale, Kath O’Donnell also attended, mingling with local photographers, all keen to find out whose photographic entries had been chosen.

Praising the efforts of all involved, Julie Halliwell said: “This calendar showcases the work of brilliant photographers and celebrates the wonderful sights from the Borough, as well as displaying the skills of a dedicated team of Springhill Hospice volunteers.

"Thank you to everyone involved in making such a beautiful calendar that raises both essential funds and awareness for the work we do at the Hospice.”

The calendar, which costs £4, with the proceeds helping to fund patient care at the 16-bed palliative care facility on Broad Lane, Rochdale, is available to buy from Springhill’s charity shops, The Craven Tea Room & Gift shop, the reception at the Hospice and other local outlets.
