School Admissions: Applications open to secure secondary school places

Date published: 31 August 2017

Parents of children due to start secondary school in September 2018 will be able to apply for their child’s school place from Friday 1 September to Tuesday 31 October.

Applying for your child’s secondary school place couldn’t be quicker or easier with our secure online application:

You can use your PC, smartphone or tablet and the system is open 24 hours a day seven days a week for your convenience. You can make changes to your application until the deadline and also track you application progress, meaning you don’t have to wait for the letter to drop through the door, you will receive instant updates and notifications.

Schools Admissions staff at Number One Riverside are also on hand with a series of drop in sessions to help people with the application should they need it or to set up an email address for those who don’t yet have one. Drop in sessions will be held every Tuesday throughout September and October from 10am-12noon (with 31 October being 10am-5pm).

Councillor Donna Martin, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “Missing the deadline for applications can be disastrous for families, as it can mean not being allocated a place at their preferred school. The best way to maximise your chances of getting into your preferred school is by applying before the deadline, which is 31 October.

"I would also encourage you to make sure you use all your preferences as only putting one will not mean that your child will definitely be allocated a place at that school. The online system is really easy and the convenience of it will be a real benefit to parents.”

The deadline to submit your application is October 31 2017, after this a late application must be made and the chances of getting the school of your choice are greatly reduced. As such, we must stress that it is vital you submit your application on time.

Primary School admission opens later in the year, further details will be announced.
