A man died after falling from a bridge onto the M62 on Monday. Police were called to the Rainbow Bridge near Scammonden Dam at junction 23 at about 6.50am to a report of a man in distress on the bridge above the M62.
Officers attended and closures were put in place between junction 22, Saddleworth, and junction 24, Huddersfield, but at about 7.13am, the man fell and sustained fatal injures.
The motorway was closed in both directions while emergency services attended causing huge tailbacks with vehicles stuck.
The eastbound M62 reopened at around 9.30am and the westbound opened shortly after 11am.
