Date published: 24 August 2017

Rochdale Islamic Academy, formerly known as Rochdale Girls’ School, is celebrating "excellent" GCSE results.

Ukasha Saqib  achieved a Grade 9 in English Literature, the highest grade possible.

Marya Peerzada and Sibqa Shamim got several Grade 8s, As and Bs.

A spokesperson for the school said: "We are very proud of the consistent efforts of the students, staff and the school community as a whole.

"This year’s cohort is to be especially congratulated with the change in the new GCSEs demanding more rigour.

"The core subjects have done exceptionally well and staff and students alike are in high spirits seeing the culmination of years of hard work."
