Hopwood Hall College closes academic year with over £6,000 raised for charity

Staff and students at Hopwood Hall College raised £6052.74 for 16 different charitable causes in the 2016/17 academic year.

Onesies were worn, cakes were baked and the college principal was locked in the stocks during the 69 different events held in the name of charity.

The largest donation totals included £4314.16 raised for Alzheimer’s Society (chosen as the college’s charity for 2016/17), £475.75 for Macmillan Cancer Support and £557.59 to Derian Children's Hospice in honour of the late Josh McCormack.

The final donations that took the total over the £6000 mark came during the staff’s ‘Health and Wellbeing Day’, an internal enrichment day with educational classes and an inter-department sports day.

Speaking at the day, assistant principal Julia Heap, said: “The efforts of our students and staff says a lot about their attitude towards the wider community. We’re incredibly proud to know that we have helped out with so many good causes.

“Looking back over the year, I think the apprentices hurling wet sponges at our principal was a favourite around the college, but it’s been great to have so many different groups come in and work with our students such as the GEM Appeal or the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

“I’d like to extend my personal thank you to all those involved for showing that we’re not just an education provider, but a part of the community too.”
