Date published: 07 August 2017

Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home were presented with a cheque for £500 on Friday (4 August) following the Parents Against Grooming UK (PAG UK) walk from Rotherham last month.

22 people took part in the walk to raise awareness of CSE; Wesi Dowd, Trevor Hayes and Mark Hughes made up team one and walked 52 miles from Rotherham in 14 hours. The remaining 19 in team two walked 17 miles from Halifax to arrive at Hollingworth Lake around ten hours later.

Co-founder of PAG UK, William Howarth, said: “Wesi, Trevor and Mark endured 52 miles in extreme weather from Rotherham to Rochdale so children like the ones at Moorlands get a weekend away.

“As Rochdale lads, we’re over the moon: as a group, we’re humbled by the support we got and would like to thank all who helped supported and assisted in our latest journey. PAG UK will continue raising money for local charities across the borough as we raise awareness on CSE.”

Parents Against Grooming UK was set up in 2012 after the founders had direct dealings with or knew parents whose children had been involved with grooming or had been approached.

The Rochdale Children’s Moorland Home in Wardle is a non-profit charity that was established back in 1894 with the objective of ‘the provision and maintenance of a holiday home for children who are in conditions of need or distress’.

Operating between March and September, the charity has two distinct functions in providing services and facilities for school children during term time and for children referred by children’s social care, schools and community groups, during school holiday periods.
