Rochdale Cenotaph community project

Date published: 28 July 2017

Balfour Beatty began work on its latest community project on Friday (28 July), replacing the flags bordering the Cenotaph in Rochdale town centre.

Paul Ellison, who is working alongside Balfour Beatty on the project, said: “Replacing the unsightly broken flags bordering the outstanding Cenotaph will also count towards our Rochdale In Bloom efforts, as judges from the Royal Horticultural Society will be visiting on Tuesday.

“James Mills from Balfour Beatty got in touch with myself a few weeks ago asking if could we do some community work together. This proposal was too good to refuse I am over the moon with having such an excellent company on-board helping in my community efforts.

“A big thanks also goes to Jewsons for donating the flags free of charge.”

Mr Ellison has highlighted a number of locations around the borough to be improved, including Roch Valley Learning Centre, St Gabriel's Church in Castleton, St Paul's Church in Norden and Moss Row allotments.

James Mills commented: "Balfour Beatty are committed to giving back to our local community and look forward to being involved in future community projects."

The team will be clearing Himalayan Balsam from Roch Valley on Saturday as the next step in the project.
