New Lower Falinge kick pitch

Date published: 26 July 2017

A new 'kick pitch' for the local community in Lower Falinge was officially opened at a special event on Saturday.

The ribbon was cut by former Rochdale AFC player Arnon Kisimba, who used to live in Lower Falinge. Arnon was joined by up-and-coming prospect Bruno David Cameron (also a local resident) and local Councillor Sultan Ali.

Dozens of local children joined in the fun and games following the opening, with family fun organised by contractors Seddon and football games with Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH) community caretaker Wayne Whitlow, a trained football coach. Lower Falinge junior wardens were also on hand to sell home-made cakes to raise money for their 'It’s A Knockout' team.

The new pitch replaces an older facility which has been relocated to enable new family homes to be built.

Daniel Wood, RBH Development & Regeneration Programme Manager, said: "We are very proud of the new kick pitch and we know that it will be well used by the local community.

"We are very grateful to Arnon, Bruno and Wayne for giving up their time on a Saturday to get the new pitch off to a flying start"
