Date published: 24 July 2017

A Community Engagement and Fun Day at Deeplish Community Centre was enjoyed by participants from local community and around Rochdale, including children, young people and families, on Saturday (22 July).

The fun day provided activities for children and families with face and Henna painting, whilst young children enjoyed a bouncy castle.

Information stalls, and recycling information was also on display, and parents were given information about forthcoming Summer Playscheme activities.

There were young people completing National Citizen Service through organisation called ‘Challenge’ who were finding out community member’s views about their local community centre. They also filmed and recorded interviews from local community users, including councillors and community leaders.

Councillor Allen Brett, Deputy Leader of the Rochdale Council, and Deputy Mayor Mohammed Zaman attended and addressed young people, sharing their experiences.

Sohail Ahmad, manager of Deeplish Community Centre, said: “We are pleased to see the success of this engagement and people’s participation today.

“We understand that public engagement events such as this are very vital for community cohesion as they bring communities together.

“It also gives young children a chance to have fun whilst staying safe.

“We are proud to connect with local community members and promote social cohesion whilst providing everyone an opportunity to visit the local community centre.”
