Ashworth Valley is blooming, thanks to 26 sponsorships towards planters by local groups and communities to the Friends group.

Sponsorship is £100 for a full planter for 12 months, or £30 for sharing a planter with other sponsors.

The full list of sponsors are: A J Properties, Admiral Labels and Print Ltd., Amber Pet Supplies, Ashworth Cattery, Baguettes, BitZforbikes, Bond & Co. Estate Agents (Norden), Brian Andrews Hairdressing, Carr Holme, Councillor Jane Howard (Bamford), DB Mac Tools Ltd., Lucy's Logs, Mike Goldrick Blinds, Norden Arms and Eatery, Owd Betts, Reside Estate Agency, Rotary Club of Heywood, R S Landscapes Ltd., Special Branch Tree Surgery, Streetwise Magazines, Suburb Café, The Bridge Chippy, The Heywood Handbook, The Norden and Bamford Handbook, Tudor Medical Aesthetics Ltd., and Union Papertech Ltd. A spokesman for The Friends of Ashworth Valley said: “Thank you all for your support and sponsoring us in keeping Ashworth blooming.”

The Friends are ploughing the funds back into Ashworth Valley. They are currently saving for a memorial bench and purchasing equipment to keep the lanes and hedgerows tidy.

They will also print a 2018 Ashworth Valley calendar and leaflets for their Heritage Walk, which will be freely available from their noticeboard before hopefully branching out to other key locations.

Speaking about her decision to sponsor the Friends, Councillor Howard said: “I was delighted to have the opportunity to support the Friends of Ashworth Valley by sponsoring a planter through my ward funds.

"Although not in Bamford Ward, Ashworth Valley is a precious green space enjoyed by so many people across the whole borough and it's wonderful to see how it has been opened up to new and seasoned visitors through the work of the Friends group, supported by their Norden councillors.

"I would like to thank the group for all their hard work in ensuring our Valley and its rich heritage, flora and fauna is safe and accessible to all.

Former President of the Rotary Club, Edwin Partridge, said he walking through the area and was impressed with both how tidy Ashworth Valley was and the existing planters.

He said: “The planters there are superb.

"Rotary is always looking for ways to help the community and want to keep areas looking nice so the two go together nicely.

"I proposed the idea and it was a unanimous decision to sponsor them.”
