Fun Summer Fundraising for Springhill Hospice

Date published: 04 May 2006

As Summer time approaches and the World Cup is almost upon us, pubs within Rochdale are taking the opportunity to capitalize on the increase in business to benefit Springhill Hospice.

Now under new management, the Black Bull of Middleton is about to launch into a campaign to support the local charity.  The pub will be hosting a variety of different activities including a sponsored parachute jump and starting with an Anne Summers Party on 15 May.

Kerry Lomax, pub landlady said, “Both myself and my partner James have always supported hospices after having personal experiences with them in the past.  We know how essential the service is that hospices provide and so we are going to dedicate as much time and effort as we possibly can to raise money for Springhill.”

The Caldermoor Pub in Littleborough is also planning a Summer Fundraising Weekend, which will begin on Friday 7 July with a Sponsored Firewalk.  On Saturday 8 July the pub will open its doors with entertainment for all of the family in the form of a human football table, donkey derby, barbeque and the World Cup live.  There will also be a Tug of War on Sunday night amongst other in and outdoor activities.

Sharron Openshaw, pub landlady said, “We are hoping to raise as much money as we can for Springhill as my dad died of cancer in Trinity Hospice, Blackpool and it made me realise how essential such facilities are.  The fundraising weekend that we are planning will be none stop fun for all the family and anyone that would like to join us in the firewalk should get in touch as we still have places available!”

Anyone who is interested in joining in or getting more information can contact Springhill Hospice Fundraising Office on 01706 711144 or call in to either one of the pubs.
