Workshops for separated mums and dads

Date published: 29 April 2006

Geoff Read of Heywood SureStart has organised two new sessions for separated mums and dads. The one day workshops are a good chance to share experiences and ideas about how to do the best for your children, whether you live with them or not.

Geoff explains: "Sometimes resident parents get so frustrated with their ex that they think of stopping the children seeing them, or non-resident parents might think that it is too painful to be ‘on the sidelines’ and give up, both of which can be a great loss to the child.

"The groups will be a good source of impartial thoughts on making separated parenting work and putting children first from other people in the same situation- so there is no need to feel alone or give up your relationship with your children. The atmosphere will be friendly and more fun than you might think."

The workshop on Saturday 6 of May will include listening, communicating and managing your feelings. The workshop on Sunday 25 of June will include meeting the challenges, ‘gunpowder points’, survival tips and what to do when you feel hurt.

Booking is essential and interested parents should phone SureStart on 694423. The sessions run from 10.30 until 4.30.

These will be the first sessions of this type in the Rochdale area, providing much needed support for a problem that many people share.

Heywood SureStart are also hoping to start monthly evening meetings.
