1940’s Swing Night for Springhill Hospice

The joint will definitely be jumping on Saturday 20 May when Springhill Hospice brings the sounds of the 1940’s to the newly refurbished Heywood Civic Hall.

Billed as a ‘Swing Night for Springhill Hospice’ and sponsored by Mike Goldrick Window Blinds of Heywood, the event will feature the live sounds of the ‘Tommy Lowe Big Band’ featuring guest vocalist, Don Graham, along with ‘GI Jive’ who will not only be playing records from the era, but also showing off their fabulous dancing skills.

The event is the brainchild of Don Matley, whose daughter-in-law, Debbie, was cared for at the Hospice. He and his Norden-based son, Paul, wanted to do something special in her memory, and as Don sings with the ‘Tommy Lowe Big Band’ (under the stage-name of Don Graham) he approached his band-mates and they very kindly agreed to perform for the Hospice. Don then contacted ‘GI Jive’ who also agreed to appear and the bill was set!

Ian Jenkins, Fundraising Manager at Springhill Hospice, says, “I’d like to take this opportunity to publicly thank Don and Paul for all they have done in putting this event together, and also thank Mike Goldrick Window Blinds, whose sponsorship has enabled us to cover all costs of the event, which means that every penny we make from the night will go direct to the Hospice. It has all the makings of a great night. We are hoping that people will really get into the spirit of things and come along in wartime dress – although it is not essential!”

Doors open at 7.30pm for the event, which commences at 8.00pm and is scheduled to finish at midnight. Tickets, priced at just £8.00 which includes a potato–pie supper, are available now from Heywood Civic Hall Box Office (624104), Rochdale Tourist Information Centre, Touchstones (864928) and Springhill Hospice Fundraising Office (711144).
