Chaos on Hollingworth Road due to Lake car park closure

Date published: 09 May 2017

Residents and visitors to Hollingworth Lake are complaining that the car park entrance was coned off and closed for ‘maintenance’ on Sunday, bringing traffic chaos to Hollingworth Road.

Over two hundred vehicles were parked either side of the road and two lines of vehicles were attempting to move in opposite directions on Hollingworth Road near the Hollingworth Lake car park.

Clive Jones said: “No advanced planning appears to have taken place, no diversionary signs displayed or advanced warning to the community given.

“One might say the local council does not care about Littleborough its community or visitors. No doubt local councillors will seek answers as too how this cavalier attitude and situation arose.”

Andrew Storey, Rochdale Borough Council’s head of capital projects and highways, said: “We had to close Hollingworth Road car park as the safety barrier was not working and the pay and display machine had been damaged by vandals. Alternative parking was available at two other car parks in the area, which were clearly signposted.”
