Multiple Stabbings in Heywood

Date published: 20 February 2006

Detectives in Rochdale are continuing to question a man who was arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman's body was found at a house in Heywood over the weekend.

At approximately 9.30pm on Saturday 18 February, police were called to Grosvenor Street in Heywood following a series of incidents.

On attendance at the scene police discovered the body of a 69-year-old woman inside a house on the street. She had suffered what are believed to be stab injuries and was taken to hospital, where she remains this morning in a serious but stable condition.

Following further investigation, the body of a second woman was found inside another house on Grosvenor Street. She was confirmed dead at the scene. Formal identification of the woman will take place later today.

Two men and one woman also received leg injuries after a car was driven at them on Grosvenor Street. One of the men is being treated in hospital after being found to also have sustained a stab wound to the neck. He is currently in a stable condition.

A murder investigation has been launched and a Home Office Post Mortem is due to take place later today, Monday 20 February 2006.

Officers will be attending court this morning, in order to obtain a warrant of further detention to continue questioning the man, aged in his mid-40's, from Heywood, who has been arrested in connection with the incident.
