Community dig at Lakeland Court

Date published: 01 March 2017

Over 25 young people from Rochdale Youth Service, Angels Project Langley and Riverside Housing took part in a community dig around the shops at Lakeland Court in Middleton on Tuesday (21 February).

They helped to dig out flower beds on the grassy area of the shops and volunteers from the Angels Project were on hand providing refreshments for all those who took part.

Jill Amos, from Rochdale Youth Service, said: “The young people have been great, even though the weather has not been great. They have all turned up to try and makes the shops look nicer this year.

“This is an area identified by the young people, which they felt needed some flowers to make the place look nicer for all those who use the shops. Hopefully, with the young people identifying the area, there will be less vandalism of the flower beds, when completed.”

Those who took part were also treated to a free climbing wall activity.

The youths have been busy over the past week preparing flower beds outside Springvale Youth Centre on Monday, which they want to be displayed in the Middleton in bloom competition, since Rochdale Youth Service will be leading the annual Royal Horticultural Society’s In Bloom competition in Middleton this year.
