TfGM is officially a better place to work

Date published: 25 January 2017

Job satisfaction and employee engagement scores at Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) are officially on the rise.

Results just released from the latest annual Best Companies Engagement Survey show that TfGM has made significant strides compared to the previous survey.

Based on the surveys undertaken during autumn 2016, the organisation has improved in all eight factors that companies are scored on - leadership, my company, my manager, personal growth, my team, wellbeing, fair deal and giving something back.

The number of people who chose to have their say has also increased, with 81 per cent of those asked taking part in the latest survey, compared to 75 per cent in the previous year.

This means that the organisation’s official overall engagement score has increased from 608.6, to 623.4 this year (on a scale of one to 1000).

Sean Dyball, Interim Customer Engagement and Information Manager, explained: “We took a creative approach to rewarding and recognising achievement in the Customer Contact Centre and set up a ‘wall of fame’, awarding a platinum disc to the team member that excels in their role each month.

“This helped to make staff feel more valued and recognised for their work, as has been shown by the latest survey results. It has also helped to build team spirit and add an element of friendly competition between colleagues.

“We’ve also held an away day to formalise our departmental aims and values and boosted opportunities for staff development. It’s all about colleagues being heard and seeing how their feedback can change things for the better.”

Dr Jon Lamonte, TfGM Chief Executive, said: “Seeing our scores increase is fantastic as it shows that our commitment to ongoing improvement is resulting in a tangible difference for many of our staff in their day-to-day experiences of working for the organisation.

“It is no secret that an engaged workforce helps to create an environment where everyone gives their best each day. We are now looking at how we can continue to improve in all areas and at all levels of the organisation and continue this upward trajectory.”

Best Companies helps organisations gain competitive advantage by measuring, recognising and improving employee engagement levels.
