Liz McInnes welcomes High Court Article 50 ruling

Liz McInnes, MP for Heywood and Middleton, has said that whilst she accepts the EU referendum result, she welcomes the High Court ruling regarding Article 50 and 'Brexit' because it will help ensure "the government is held accountable for its actions".

Ms McInnes said: "Many constituents have been in touch to ask my opinion regarding the High Court ruling. I am happy to make it clear that I completely accept the result of the referendum and there is no doubt that we will leave the EU. The only question is how. We need to make sure that we get the best possible Brexit deal for the country and for people here in Heywood and Middleton.

"I also believe that the process by which we leave needs to be transparent and that those making decisions on our behalf in the negotiations need to be held to account.

"I therefore welcome the High Court ruling as it may help to ensure the government is held accountable for its actions, but I am clear that it does not change the fact that we will leave the EU.

"The High Court ruling will not block Brexit, despite what some sections of our media claim.

"I will continue to do all I can to make the case for a Brexit that works for Britain, protecting living standards, the economy and jobs."
