All Souls’ and Hopwood Schools to become 'Teaching Schools'

Date published: 04 November 2016

All Souls CE Primary and Hopwood C P School have been selected for roles supporting schools in challenging circumstances and training new teachers.

Both schools are just two of over 30 schools nationally that have been selected to become a Teaching School, taking a leading role in recruiting and training new entrants to the profession.

Teaching Schools are outstanding schools that have a strong track record of collaborative working with others to provide high quality training and development to new and experienced staff. Teaching Schools are also part of the government’s strategy to give schools a central role in raising standards by developing a self-improving and sustainable school led system.

The two schools have formed an alliance which will be branded under the title of ‘The Arch Alliance’. They will be focused upon sharing the excellent work within both All Souls’ CE Primary School and Hopwood Community Primary School with other schools and school staff.

On being awarded Teaching School Status, Headteachers Gaynor Rennie and Gill Sarginson said: “We are delighted to be awarded Teaching School status which recognises the skills of our staff, innovative practice and our achievements. We are proud to be playing such a significant part of the future of education”

Alongside their designation as Teaching Schools both Headteachers; Mrs Gaynor Rennie and Mrs Gill Sarginson have been appointed as National Leaders of Education (NLE) Both local schools have been designated as National Support School (NSS) which means they have the success to provide additional leadership capability in other schools.

Roger Pope, Chair of the National College for Teaching and Leadership, said: “I’d like to congratulate All Souls’ CE Primary and Hopwood Community Primary on being designated as a Teaching Schools and National Leaders of Education. They should be very proud of this achievement.

Teaching schools and NLEs are at the heart of school improvement. They’re supporting other schools, attracting and training the best new teachers and developing the next generation of leaders. At NCTL, we want to do all we can to support their work.”
