We've woven a Rochdale Yarn!

A competition run by Rochdale Libraries and the Wheatsheaf WordWeavers writing group, to write a short story for the borough has its winners! And to celebrate, the successful entrants received their prizes and read from their stories at a presentation at the Wheatsheaf Library in Rochdale All entrants were invited to the presentation where they shared their stories and poems through live performance. Highly commended and youngest entrant Jessica Timperley, aged 9 from Wardle enthralled the audience with the telling of her story "Parade". 

Other renditions told the history of Middleton Parish Church seen through the eyes of "The Sentinel", and the tale of "The Fairy in the Well" on Rooley Moor.

The winners are Keith Bamford from Rochdale with "Just the Right Note" and Martyn Tierney from Rochdale with "Springfield Park". Principal Librarian, Sheila Sfrijan presented the prizes of £20 book tokens, donated by Rochdale Libraries.

Visitors to the library can view all the entries, which will be on display from Monday 21 November. They will later be on show at Heywood and Middleton libraries.

The 'Wheatsheaf WordWeavers' is a creative writing group, who meet at 5.30pm on alternate Mondays in the Wheatsheaf Library. New members are very welcome. For further details, call Janice Tod at the library on (01706) 864900 or Seamus Kelly on (01706) 343929.
