Rochdale clubs together to fill mammoth container!

Date published: 21 October 2005

The fund raising efforts of the people of Rochdale have stepped up a gear - a giant FORTY FOOT Container is being filled with urgent supplies to help the victims of the Asian Earthquake.  The Container will be sent to the Kashmir Development Foundation who are based in the Bhimber area of Azad Kashmir, Pakistan and hit the sea on Tuesday 25 October.  The container will be located at KYP, Rochdale from 2.30pm - 5.00pm, 21 October.

The Campaign is being led by Rochdale MP - Paul Rowen, who has given up his offices to store emergency items to help victims of the disaster.  Paul said, "I am hoping as many people come and donate to this appeal - Rochdale people are generous and my offices are crammed with all sorts of important supplies.  We have received generous donations from across the area - we appealed especially for items to help the women and children from the regions affected and we will be bringing a significant number of boxes with a variety of life saving things in them!  I would like to pay tribute to one particular company who have provided the container and shipping costs.  Brenda and the staff at Alderburgh Ltd in Littleborough were magnificent during the Tsunami Appeal and have repeated their generosity again - we can't thank them enough!"

The container will be outside KYP - the Kashmir Youth Project from 2.30pm till 5.00pm and everyone is being urged to come down, help and contribute.  The area of Bhimber in Azad Kashmir has been chosen because so many people in Rochdale have relatives affected in the area. The Container will be received by the Kashmir Development Foundation who will be responsible for giving out the donations to the needy."

Ismail Fulat from KYP said, "We are grateful to the people of Rochdale who have been so good in this time of crisis.  I am hoping we can cram as many packages as possible into the container - we will find room!"
