Lee Tennant gearing up for epic coast-to-coast cycle challenge

Date published: 17 May 2016

Determined cyclist Lee Tennant is gearing up for an epic coast-to-coast bike trek to raise money for the Bolton Hospice.

Heywood man Lee, along with his friend Lenny Leaf, will cycle 900 miles from John o’ Groats to Lands’ End in memory of his friend’s partner, Donna McLaughlin, whose death inspired him to raise as much money as possible to help try and find a cancer cure.

The trip is expected to last between 2 and 10 July, and Lee and Lenny have so far raised £270.

Lee told Rochdale Online : “Of course like so many other people there is an inspiration behind the charity. For me it was my friends partner Donna, when she lost her battle with cancer it did sort of push us to start raising money for the Hospice.

“Due to large cost items such as fuel for support vehicle and so we can maximise the money we raise for Bolton Hospice, we are seeking support towards the cost of the event. Any support from local business is greatly accepted.”

He continued: “In the past I have also run the Sheffield 10K and the Manchester 10K. Some of my friends think I am a mad cyclist as I use to cycle 18 miles before work, even though I only worked 3.5 miles away, but I enjoy it that much. This was the perfect opportunity to raise money for a good cause with something I am good at and enjoy. It’s going to be a challenge but I think we’re ready.”
